چکیده

Introduction Over the past decade advances in optical miniaturization systems used in endoscopes and computer assisted image guidance systems have led to an explosion of new minimally invasive surgical techniques for treating spinal deformities. Patients prefer minimally invasive surgery because such techniques give the promise of better cosmetic effect and reduced recovery times. Many of these techniques also promise decreased blood loss and better post-operative pulmonary function. Though equipment costs for start-up are steep, decreased hospital stay offers advantage to institutions as well. As newly developed techniques in minimally invasive surgery begin to be more widely used the pediatric anesthesiologist will have to develop improved and reproducible techniques to accommodate the technological advances. Selective lung ventilation in small children and a critical understanding of a host of new possible complications that can arise during these procedures needs to be appreciated. Furthermore as new therapeutic modalities develop which offer surgery to patients previously not candidates, the anesthesiologist is called upon to care for a new patient population of younger more severely debilitated children.

The Effectiveness of Sedative and Non-pharmacological Premedication in Pediatric Anesthesia: A Review Article

Many children who undergo surgery experience significant perioperative anxiety. Preoperative anxiety can prolong induction of anesthesia and postoperative recovery, increase the risk of postoperative delirium, increase pain, and increase analgesic use. Researchers are looking for ways to treat or prevent preoperative anxiety in children and possibly reduce its negative effects after surgery, su...

Comparison of Anesthetic Techniques on Outcomes of Pediatric Rigid Bronchoscopy for Foreign Body Removal

Background Although both methods of spontaneous respiration and controlled ventilation during anesthesia are safe and effective for managing children with foreign body aspiration, there is no consensus from the literature as to which technique is optimal. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of anesthetic techniques in pediatric rigid bronchoscopy for foreign body removal. Materials and M...

Regional anesthesia alone for pediatric free flaps.

Microvascular surgery plays an important reconstructive role in the pediatric population. Successful outcomes rely on surgical technique as well as anesthesia. Regional anesthesia contributes to successful free tissue transfer through sympathetic blockade, postoperative pain control, and elimination of risks and costs associated with general anesthesia. While regional anesthesia in microsurgery...

Anesthesia for minimally invasive cranial and spinal surgery.

The field of minimally invasive neurosurgery has evolved rapidly in its indications and applications over the last few years. New, less invasive techniques with low morbidity and virtually no mortality are replacing conventional neurosurgical procedures. Providing anesthesia for these procedures differs in many ways from conventional neurosurgical operations. Anesthesiologists are faced with th...
